TWO WORLD HITS FINALLY

The 2022 Heidenheim Opera Festival bid farewell to the traditional Last Night with two veritable blockbusters that celebrate “DA CAPO” in their own way. For the last time this summer, festival director Marcus Bosch will join forces to perform with the Stuttgart Philharmonic, the Czech Philharmonic Choir in Brno and three soloists from the OH! to prepare an unforgettable last night - if the weather cooperates, of course under the evening sky in the knight's hall.

TheWest Side Story– since its premiere in 1957 it has been regarded as "the" musical par excellence, perhaps Broadway's most important contribution to music history. Not only the sheer unbelievable drive of the music and the many dance performances, but also the great commercial success of Leonard Bernstein's most famous work led to the fact that from the zugkräfigsten numbers ofWest Side Storysoon an independent ballet was put together . One of the most important American choreographers of all, Jerome Robbins, not only had the initial idea for a musical based on the subject of "Romeo and Juliet", but also developed the stage version of the "Symphonic Dances" for dancers.

Like Leonard Bernstein, Carl Orff became world famous in one fell swoop when, 20 years earlier than his American colleague, he brought his greatest success of his life to the stage. He wrote euphorically to his publisher: “You can now stamp everything I have written so far! My collected works begin with Carmina Burana!" He had succeeded in creating a "secular cantata" from the old collection of vagabond poems from the Benediktbeuern monastery, which, with its archaic power, seductive sonority and irrepressible love of life, became the most frequently performed choral work of the entire 20th century .Program:
